Would you like to know more about Easter in the Caribbean?

As we all know, Easter is a Catholic tradition celebrating the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Mexico and the Dominican Republic are basically Catholic countries, and processions based on their Spanish heritage are held in many areas of both countries. In Riviera Maya, beautiful masses are held, full of tradition and faith; Palm Sunday and Ash Wednesday in the center of Playa del Carmen. The Church of Our Lady of Carmen is worth a visit, as its altar is unique in the world in that it faces the blue Caribbean scenery. In Punta Cana for people who want to know a bit more about the country, we recommend the Colonial Zone in Santo Domingo, a Dominican cultural heritage site. Don’t forget the Cathedral of America, where religious services attract both Dominicans and tourists; in addition to the Alcázar de Colón, Casas Reales museum or San Francisco Monastery.

At Easter our Princess hotels continue to operate as normal, offering all of the exclusive services of our 5-star resorts. Easter in the Caribbean is a perfect time to enjoy the facilities and services at the Princess hotels in the Dominican Republic and Riviera Maya.

What is Easter like in Riviera Maya?

Easter is one of the best times for people who visit Riviera Maya for its cultural and traditional attractions and perfect climate. What do you think about heading towards the south of the Riviera Maya this year?

  • First stop – Yalku Cove: If you want to go diving and see all the diversity of the fish in the area, this is the best place to do it. Yalkú is 30 minutes from Playa del Carmen and opens at eight in the morning. We recommend you get here early to make the most of the day. The creek is home to a mixture of salt water and fresh water, creating a combination of both ecosystems. Mangrove roots are a refuge for many species and an important part of the self-protection systems for the environment.
  • Second stop – Xcacel Xcacelito: Just 40 minutes south of Playa del Carmen, this beach offers you absolutely nothing. That’s right! No noise, no water sports, no beach clubs. This is due to its location facing the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, making it a sanctuary for many species of flora and fauna. It is also the main nesting site for two turtle species: the loggerhead turtle and the white turtle, for which it was declared a Protected Natural Reserve almost 20 years ago. Inside the area is Xcacelito, an open cenote with controlled access where you can cool off, go snorkeling or simply enjoy the peace and harmony of the mangrove forest.
  • Third stop – Cobá: Sharing the treasures of our cultural heritage allows us to rediscover ourselves as human beings. Cobá is one of the finest cities of the Mayan civilization and is only an hour and a half from Playa del Carmen, direction Tulum. Once you get there, you have to pay a fee to use the parking lot. You will then see many shops selling local handicrafts and food. Tour guides offer tours on foot or by bicycle, without doubt an unusual way to experience history. To visit the archaeological area, we recommend you wear comfortable footwear, light or sports clothes and sunscreen.
  • Isla Mujeres: This island of indescribable beauty is about 7km long and barely 1km wide. It is located an hour and a half from the Princess Hotels and is a “must” for all visitors.
  • Xcaret: Finally, one of the main attractions in the area, the Mexican-themed archaeological Eco-Park named Xcaret. Located on the site of the ancient Mayan city of Zama, the remains of which are conserved inside the park. Enjoy a tropical landscape and the characteristic Blue River.

What does Riviera Maya offer for adults?

For adults we propose a relaxed and peaceful plan, sun, beach, pool, delicious cocktails … The perfect way to forget work and the daily routine. At night, fun is guaranteed. Visit the theater, where our dancers and actors will surprise you with a different show every night. And as we know that this experience has to be enjoyed to the full, we also offer you the chance to dance to salsa music and other Caribbean rhythms in our Disco Areito! The night is always young!

What is Easter like in Punta Cana?

This Easter, do not worry about anything except relaxing and enjoying yourself! A wonderful tropical paradise of white sand and warm waters, where you and your family can enjoy a well-deserved vacation.

The picturesque Dominican Easter will surprise you with traditions and spirit that keep alive the deepest religious feelings of the Dominicans. They celebrate the religious services with the greatest respect and care, and local processions are organized to prepare for Easter Thursday and Good Friday. Here are a few activities we propose for you to enjoy Easter in the Caribbean:

Basilica of Our Lady of Altagracia in Higuey: We recommend a visit. Experience a religious Easter in the Caribbean and discover local traditions.

Colonial Zone in Santo Domingo: Dominican cultural heritage. Don’t forget that this is the location of the Cathedral of America, where religious services attract both Dominicans and tourists.

Whales in Samaná: The rest of the week we recommend you enjoy the whales in Samaná. This is the season, and it is an experience that neither kids nor adults will ever forget. Surrounded by impressive mountains that slope directly into the water, whales flock to Samaná Bay every year at this time of year to give birth. A magnificent event that must not be missed.

A walk through “Ojos Indígenas”: We really have to recommend some local excursions such as a walk through the “Ojos Indígenas” Eco-Park, between lakes with crystal-clear waters and native forest. Bathe in the waters and play with the fish and turtles.

Not forgetting to mention that the hotel has specialized teams to help you with endless options and excursions in addition to the activities, games and sports offered by our entertainment team in the hotel.

What can Punta Cana offer sports lovers?

As for the weather, Easter in the Caribbean is very warm with a mild temperature, ideal for almost any type of sport, both inside and outside the hotel. It’s a great time to enjoy some of the most challenging and fun-packed activities in the area with your friends. Punta Cana is the ideal place for snorkeling and diving. Its crystal-clear waters are perfect for enjoying the underwater environment and the huge numbers of tropical fish. There are also excursions in quads or buggies, exciting zip line routes, horseback riding or cocoa, coffee or tobacco plantations to visit.
